Mahavir Janma Kalyanak is the auspicious day of the birth of Lord Mahavir who was born into this world more than 2,600 years ago. Born as a Prince into the Ikshvaku Dynasty in Present day Bihar (and by the way Lord Ram also belonged to this same dynasty), he abandoned all the luxuries of royal life and at just 30 became a Jain monk in search of spiritual enlightenment. After 12.5 years of rigorous penances and meditation, he attained Kewal Gnan (Omniscience) and there after through his selfless compassion, he spread the wisdom of Jain philososphy, enlightening thousands of Indians on the attainment of one’s True and Divine nature and the transformation into eternal blissful and pure Consciousness…the essence of Jainism as we know it today.

Speciesism The Movie

A truly compelling movie that challenges speciesism like never before.

What is it that makes this low-budget film so good?  It certainly isn’t the quality of the filming. It’s Mark Devries’ brilliant role as a reporter who just keeps on challenging speciesism, particularly with reference to meat eating. He is like Socrates, constantly challenging people’s pre-conceived ideas and prejudices with a brilliant example of Socratic questioning. What he exposes is a worldwide society inflicting holocaustic suffering on billions of other sentient beings, the whole time, and yet being totally in denial of it and of being completely blinkered by the prejudice that is speciesism. He leaves no stone unturned, exposing again and again, the flaws in society’s logic about the way we treat animals.

Invitation to Meet Rev. Dada J P Vaswani

Saddhu Vaswani

Dear All,

You will be pleased to know that Rev. Dada J P Vaswani will be visiting London from 10 – 18 April. We have arranged a number of programmes as per the attached invitation cards.

I have pleasure, on behalf of the Sadhu Vaswani Centre UK committee, to invite you, your family and friends to the functions. I look forward to welcoming you all to these events.

Dada J P Vaswani will turn 98 in August this year. He continues to travel tirelessly around the world to spread the word of his Master, Sadhu Vaswani.

Dada possesses the childlike qualities of playfulness and innocence. He has the ability to see the world, through faith-tinted glasses, as a place of joy and adventure. In the midst of children, he has the unique attribute of becoming a child, and, among adults, he displays the special talent of making them feel like children again. Accordingly, both the youth and the elders of your organisation will benefit immensely from hearing him.

I will be grateful if you could advise me of the number of people who will attend the programmes so that we may arrange appropriate seating.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards

Anil Shivdasani

Bodmin Pony Welfare Crisis – Please Help

There is currently a welfare crisis underway on Bodmin Moor – THIS IS HAPPENING NOW.

On one particular common there is a crisis which has been underway since 27th February 2016 – a month now.  The mass neglect and starvation of ponies – in the last month at least 11 ponies have died out on the common from neglect and starvation, too weak to survive they have been dropping dead out on the moor, their carcasses left to rot…not even collected by the authorities who are aware of the situation.  All those dead have been left out for weeks now – and even for all to see for the Easter bank holiday – the start of the Cornish tourist holiday season…

We would like to thank People for Ponies (P4P) for highlighting this to us.  More details can be found at http://www.people4ponies.blogspot.co.uk/

This needs to be highlighted to the following groups so that this welfare crisis is brought to an end.  There needs to be accountability and a long term effective strategy put in place to ensure this does not happen again.  PLEASE spread through social media AND contact the following groups:

AIA Sickened by Death of Three Race Horses at Cheltenham Festival

The Animal Interfaith Alliance is sickened and appalled at the death of three race horses yesterday at the Cheltenham Festival and is calling on the government to ban this lethal event.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Govaness, Pont Alexandre and Rezorbi, the three horses who so tragically lost their lives yesterday.

The event went ahead despite the fact that 49 race horses had already lost their lives since the year 2000 at the Cheltenham Festival, which is nothing better than a graveyard for horses.  Television coverage hid these tragedies from view and therefore conspired with the organisers to perpetuate the deaths.

Please write to your MP and ask them to call for the banning of this event in Parliament.

AIA Appoints new Representative in Europe

The Animal Interfaith Alliance is very pleased to announce that it has appointed Dr Andre Menache to be its European Representative & Science Advisor.

Andre Menache

Dr Andre Menache BSc(Hons) BVSc MRCVS is based in Europe and is a veterinarian who advises extensively on animal welfare matters.  He is director of Antidote Europe, based in France and is a patron of Quaker Concern for Animals.   He has been president of Doctors and Lawyers for Responsible Medicine (UK) and general manager of The Federation of Animal Protection Societies in Israel.  He currently provides scientific support to several grass roots organisations.

AIA is delighted to be able to extend its influence for animal welfare beyond the UK and into the EU.
