The Animal Interfaith Alliance fully supports a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW) to be backed by the United Nations, which is being instigated by WAP (formerly WSPA), supported by the RSPCA, CIWF and IFAW. They are calling for a declaration which will create a baseline for animal care and treatment that every nation in the world can work towards. It will make animals a global priority, to be included where solutions are sought for the big issues the world faces, like global poverty and climate change. It will make animals matter. More than two million individuals and 40 governments have now joined WAP in demanding a declaration.
The AIA urges WAP to get on with pursuing the declaration which appears to have lost momentum.
