AIA has closed its social media account with X (formerly Twitter) and you will no longer be able to follow us on X.
The directors took the decision to close the account as they believe that remaining on this social media platform would leave AIA seriously conflicted. As an interfaith organisation which promotes social harmony, we cannot operate on a platform that allows uncensored hate speech, particularly the recent speech that led to the riots in England, and especially when that speech is supported and amplified by the platform’s owner.
As an organisation which advocates for the replacement of laboratory animals with human relevant test methods, we cannot remain on a platform whose owner has sponsored horrendous animal testing. AIA is deeply dismayed by the use of animals to develop ‘brain chips’ by the company Neuralink which is sponsored by the owner of X. Researchers justify using animals by claiming that they are sufficiently similar to humans to extrapolate results from animal studies to humans, whilst in the same breath denying their right to freedom from pain and suffering, on the grounds that they are not sufficiently like us. Necessity is the mother of invention. If humans are capable of landing people on the moon, then we also have the capability of developing human relevant technologies to replace the use of animals in the sphere of helping people who suffer from neurological defects.
